5–8 JUL - The KAF workshop with Bika Rebek taking place in Prishtina will develop concepts and functional prototypes for the re-opening of the galleries of the Kosovo National Museum. Application deadline is 30 Jun!

Taking exhibition and event design as a starting point, the aim of this workshop is to develop concepts and functional prototypes for the re- opening of the galleries of the Kosovo National Museum in February 2018. Working with a team of in-house staff and external experts, students will re-imagine the collection and propose exhibition strategies with a chance of contributing to the project until completion.

The first day of the workshop will circle the question of the object in the age of digital reproduction. Each group will select a collection of artifacts from the Kosovo National Museum and find ways of documenting and digitally reproducing it. To create thoughtful duplicates of the collection, participants will design a workflow to translate the physical into a digital model and back into a physical duplicate. The first session will look at simple ways of representing objects: 3d-scanning software on smartphones, measuring, and hand-drawing. Once digitally processed the replica will be we re-created out of cardboard and paper and placed into a new context.

The second part will be concerned with creating an environment for the object that will highlight specific characteristics and engage viewers. Each group will develop a mode of display that will at once protect the replica, while providing a singular visual or haptic experience to the spectator. Techniques can include traditional mounting methods such as a plinth or case, wall and ceiling mounts, hanging devices or frames. Throughout the workshop, participants will experiment with work -flows to enable ultra- quick content communication to the others in the group, with a focus on production and prototyping.

The workshop will be held directly on site in the museum to allow for close consultation with local experts and a direct viewing of the collection. Participants will collaborate closely with the in-house team to produce new strategies of display for Kosovo’s largest museum.
