Warehouse of Architecture and Research

http://studiowar.com

Via Nomentana 331, Rome, Italy
WAR was founded in Rome in 2013. Its essence lies between the concept of a mannerist architecture studio and an independent space for research in the contemporary practice. Theory alongside practice, dialogue before design. In the warehouse, a collective hive-mind of documents, books and drawings, the team elaborates architectures and books, exhibitions and furnitures, schemes of urban development and questionable ideas.

Hypothetical futures need attempts in order to be better shaped
Sankt Gallen’s map is filled with random contemporary buildings, bridging eras with zeal, devotion and ingenuity.

  • New alliances

While technique is important, architecture requires the preservation of knowledge, often completed through conversation and ideas. Sankt-Gallen’s map originally suggested the blueprint for an ideal monastery – our response, in turn, is a blueprint for dialogue between architecture’s key eras. By filling contemporary buildings on a centuries’ old enigmatic map we seek to bring the past into the present, gazing towards the future. Mankind cannot overestimate its chances at continuous survival. Therefore, the re-use of an existing and purposeful layout for a settlement tailored to hypothetical future needs is an attempt that we believe will be forever useful, representing the proverbial message in a bottle.
