Due to climate change, the sea level is rising. Copenhagen has been flooded before, and there is a high risk that it will happen again.

This projects deals with climate adaption, increasing traffic and a growing population all at ones. By combining the future water barrier with a sustainable traffic strategi incl new metro lines and new bike connections, the city will not only be protected from floodings in the future, it will also get a new islands that connects other parts of Copenhagen in a sustainable way. New housing developments on the island will house parts of the growing population and help to pay for the water barrier and new transit hub.

Nordhaleøen becomes the new sustainability beacon of Copenhagen

This is the highest level that sea water have reached so far in Copenhagen. The risk that it happens again is high!

The new island contains new housing areas, offices, culture, institutions and a recreative landscape park.
