Entropic Memory

New approaches to industrial heritage and residual infrastructures_ Promotion Center for the Automobile in Valladolid
The project displays a new approach to industrial heritage and peripheral residual infrastructures of cities, recovering them as entropic spaces of multinatures.

Type of project
  • Systemic changes

The reuse of abandoned spaces is a way to save resources of the existing and future cities and to avoid the unnecessary consumption of land and infrastructures. In this case the project starts with the automotive sector -with great importance in the economic, urban and social development of Valladolid- intervening in an empty industrial space associated with the productive memory of the city (old fiber cement factory).

The strategic location of the plot at the confluence of two high traffic routes supports the decision to concentrate the program on one point and generate a building-performative screen integrated into the space. On its opposite sides to the road, as a counterpoint, a natural wicker skin lets climb the vegetation of the extensive horizontal plane. At the plot level, a natural-mechanical park maintains the existing hybrid character, with layers of functional components to those already existing, as a historical palimpsest.
