Mobile architecture for migrant workers

B/N Project

Mobile architecture for migrant workers
Temporaries agrocities for seasonal migrant workers in Italian regions of Apulia and Basilicata
File under

B/N Project intends to provide a realistic solution to the problem of accommodating seasonal migrant workers. In Italy, the social attrition between residents and immigrants has grown alarmingly intense. For this reason, B/N Project only provides for the seasonal migrant workers’ temporary accommodation, while also saving them from the inhumanity of their current condition by avoiding the risk of health and hygiene emergencies. Often unwanted, destitute and without resources, they find shelter in caves or ruined buildings scattered in the countryside between Apulia and Basilicata, where local residents try to scare them away by firing intimidating gunshots at night. In addition, the over 3,000 immigrants registered in this area flock to the surrounding rural hamlets, actually small groups of houses with a few dozen residents and rarely protected by police garrisons, to buy food or get water.
