Shelter.

A room in the countryside. Place of protection and freedom.

Shelter.

A room in the countryside. Place of protection and freedom.
We are interested in spaces that change over time. It depends of the nature itself.
File under

We were asked to develop one small shelter in the countryside, right in the middle of a Portugal's interior region called Alentejo. In the middle of nowhere, where we feel alone and near nature.

With the option of not being agressive to this idyllic landscape, the main idea was to construct this shelter with the abundant material that we find in situ - cork. This is taken of the trees and goes through a simple process of compression by hot water, and then transformed into cork blocks. The shelter is constructed with these blocks. This way the shelter is like it had always been there, like it always belonged to the place itself.

This is an opportunity to build with the place and at the same time create a new form of application for this rudimentar material. This is a shelter to be alone with yourself and with nature

We are interested in spaces that change over time. For us doing architecture is being a part of a process that is never finished. It depends of the nature itself.
