There was a time in Europe, when balconies widespread with a revolutionary function of introducing air, light and openness in dwellings. In response to the long diseases that had shattered cities, this architectural element was related to the new standards of health and hygiene and became a symbol of modern utopias.
From there on, their capacity to mediate exterior and indoor conditions has been intensively studied and amplified by acclaimed recent interventions.
During these first years of our young practice, it seems to us that balconies are a visceral modern device. We have been using it as a way to actualize existent and new dwellings to climatic change and to the extremely dense upcoming urbanization.
Through its morphology and flexibility balconies can deal with a wide range of specific contexts and circumstances. This idea aims to study the historical motifs and optimize its role, in order to adapt and design more healthy and efficient tomorrow dwellings.
