Supra-structure

Valcele-Rm. Valcea Railway

Supra-structure

Valcele-Rm. Valcea Railway
An abandoned railway, proposal for rail-trail and viaduct regeneration.
File under
Type of project
  • Systemic changes

We view infrastructure in a narrow sense, a means to an end, a resource.
Perceiving the object as a reserve causes the loss of its autonomy, it becomes a non-object bringing discrepancy in landscape and community space.
The scenario of abandonment, enhanced by the specific case of the railway with spectacular viaducts and tunnels undoubtedly urges initiative.
These abandoned structures, as strange as they seem at first glance, have been assimilated by the community. Familiarity and freedom gave rise to a multitude of uses, where each gives a different meaning to infrastructure.
The lack of function liberates the non-object. Its transformation into an object gives the structure a polysemy of meanings and a series of stories through which infrastructure has a newfound significance.
Supra-structure should speculate this.
Mediation, that comes between infrastructure as a resource, landscape, and community.

Valcele -Rm. Valcea Railway Map
