Mystetskyi Arsenal: Spatial Development Scenarios

CANactions festival is Ukraine's largest architectural event with a 10 year history. The 10th edition will under the theme "Values" with lectures provided by well-known foreign and Ukrainian experts, current exhibitions, workshops and film screenings create the conditions for the ideas sharing and dialogue in the sphere of modern architecture. Taking place in Kiev between 2-3 June the events will include lectures by Martin Rein-Cano, the founder of Berlin based landscape architecture practice Topotek 1, renowned Dutch architect Hans van der Heijden, architect, professor at Harvard' Graduate School of Design and co-founder of SO – IL Florian Idenburg, German architect and co-owner of SAM Architekten und Partner Christoph Schneider. As part of this year’s CANaction festival Future Architecture alumni will from 29 May – 3 June under curatorship of Mirjam Niemeyer (helsinkizurich) hold an international workshop titled Mystetskyi Arsenal: Spatial Development Scenarios. Over 20 participants will elaborate the spatial development scenarios of historical and architectural monument of state importance National Cultural-Arts and Museum Complex “Mystetskyi Arsenal” build in 1783-1801. The participants applied to the Open Call will under the guidance of Fani Kostourou, Adriana Pablos Llona and Víctor Manuel Cano Ciborro focus on spatial development (hard transformations) with project-planning suggestions that should lead to long-term and step-by-step transformations of certain buildings and spaces of Mystetskyi Arsenal taken the current challenges and opportunities into consideration, as well as experience development (soft transformations) with proposals of the creation and usage of the Arsenal spaces and buildings, strategically aimed to create new experience and interaction with the space of Mystetskyi Arsenal.
