Studio MIWI is a multidisciplinary practice exploring the limits and scenarios of Speculative Architecture and Design. Spanning across all scales, we envision and design immersive experiences and spatial narratives through Architecture, Virtual Reality and Objects of Design. Such explorations are informed both by the ever accelerating culture of the digital and the pithy practice of traditional material crafting.

Almost Kitchen

The future of food culture

Almost Kitchen

The future of food culture
As the elevator gave birth to the skyscraper, Almost Kitchen speculates on the future of the domestic environment and the transmutation of the Kitchen in the advent of new culinary technologies - in particular, the 3D Food Printer.

  • Systemic changes

Any change, whether banal or groundbreaking, has the ability to radically transform our environment with a snowball effect. Architecture, being an exceptionally nervous system, is the prime field where these changes are radically manifested. Yet often such changes pass unnoticed because, in their advent, they are usually confined within other scientific fields (Culinary studies, thanatology etc).

"Almost Kitchen" is more of a thought experiment rather than a solid proposal per se. Its goal is to pick an emerging technology as its starting point and explore all the different domesticities and spatial trajectories that may emerge from this slight change. Imagining entire cities the moment someone merely whispers the idea of the elevator requires one to deeply understand the idea behind the technology and the ecology it exists in. This, as an idea, drives our work as we believe it should be integrated in the architectural pedagogy as a method of speculative architecture making.
