As part of the Future Architecture Program 2021 “Landscapes of Care”, the S AM Swiss Architecture Museum is organizing a one-day symposium taking place during the summer of 2021. As part of the Future Architecture Program 2021 “Landscapes of Care”, the S AM Swiss Architecture Museum is organizing a one-day symposium taking place during the summer of 2021. The program will coincide with the S AM’s summer exhibition “Access for All”, which examines architectural and infrastructural projects in the Brazilian metropolis of São Paulo with a particular focus on how they interweave with and add new qualities to the urban fabric in which they are embedded.

Taking the themes of this show as a conceptual starting point, the symposium presents six case studies, visionary projects, and research initiatives from across Europe and beyond that work at the intersection of architecture, public space, and concepts of “care”. Through individual presentations as well as discussion sessions, the event will examine and debate, at different scales, how more inclusive spaces can be created in the city and what role and responsibility architecture has in the provision of such spaces.

The symposium is currently planned as a hybrid event, with a physical component in Basel complemented by a digital livestream over the S AM YouTube Channel. Details regarding schedule and registration are forthcoming and will be published on the S AM website and Facebook page in the weeks leading up to the event.
