Re-Think Tank

Rethinking the vertical office typology. Adapting the workplace down to a more human scale.

Re-Think Tank

Rethinking the vertical office typology. Adapting the workplace down to a more human scale.
An office emergency. Commercial towers have rendered themselves useless through the 2020 pandemic, is it time to give the workplace a home?
File under
Type of project
  • Systemic changes

2020 forced workforces into their homes, prompting ‘kitchen startups’ in lockdown, showing a lack of flexibility in the vertical workplace. We aim to deconstruct the office typology and conceptualise what the workplace could become, if it had a home.
UNIT: Flexible modular design, a scale which mimics the home and a fluid layout, welcoming a variety of workforces from potters to coders.
CLUSTER: Shared gardens instigate spontaneous conversation. A cluster could include Architects, Consultants, Artisans and Engineers, all contributing to the advancement of the built environment.
DISTRICT: Affordable brownfield sites will be used away from the city. Garston, Liverpool sits a short walk from existing rail links. The district sits along a boulevard with shared amenities, all surrounded by green space and allotments. All buildings are one level, a refreshing change from the city. Standardisation allows the development to be repeated and varied depending on site and user requirements.

UNIT: Layout Plan

UNIT: Visuals

CLUSTER: Visuals

DISTRICT: Axonometric and Location Study
