Renovation and expansion of Zlatorog hotel in Bohinj, Slovenia
Renovation and expansion of Zlatorog hotel in Bohinj, Slovenia
- Site-specific cases
Renovation and extension of existing buildings with the aim to give them new meaning, to become more effective, even more beautiful, more sustainable. Keeping beautiful memories, the history and identity of the place is the contribution of hotel Zlatorog to the comunity. We felt the need to consider using an existing one before we add something modern. It seemed irresponsible not to consider maintaining the existing and to explore the possibilities of reusing it. Through consideration we have come to a poetic complexity - interweaving between old-new one that just with new probably wouldn't achieve the same authenticity. Renovations can be quite tedious, but the most interesting ones are buildings that show layers of time and development. Where you can see the thinking and needs of different periods, design ideologies and lifestyles. In terms of sustainability, renovation of existing avoids the use of unnecessary materials, reduces demolition work and the amount of construction waste.
