  • New alliances

Vernacular Photography of domestic life today is inherently different from its older variants. Where the protagonists co-starred with their backgrounds and manifested their objects of suburban desires. Perhaps the staging of an event was more significant than the memories portrayed. They curated a collection of memories whereas today our piles have overflown the borders of memory-hoarding. Now we get to pick through their milestones of life, purchase them in bundles and appropriate their stories through decontextualizing them from their timelines. Yet the most compelling outcome of this phenomenon is the ability to interpret the old photographs without and apriori understanding. Like all commodities at the flea market, our own memories and ones we buy and adapt, coexist simultaneously, because they do not belong to the past nor only to a possible future and are not just owned by their rightful owners anymore, therefore, they can be memories of us, of them and many more’s, forever.
