Filter is an architectural and design studio based in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina founded in 2010. So far, the studio has been working on various projects concerning architecture, urbanism and design, at home and abroad (USA, China, Switzerland, Norway). Filter has won several prizes and competitions and has been nominated for Aga Khan Award for Architecture, ‎2014-2016 cycle, and Mies van der Rohe-European Union Prize for architecture 2015.

We imagine architecture as sensitive systems, capable of adjusting itself to different natural and social conditions, while serving to individual and collective needs and being open to be inhabited in various ways.

Project was done for international competition, organized by Kimse Yok Mu Foundation, Turkey. Competition asked for a design of new 1000 regional schools in Africa. Basic task was to challenge climatic and social conditions in region of African savannas. Project is based on equalization of conditions for rainfall and dry seasons. In rainfall season water is collected inside of structure of object. In dry season water is used for everyday needs of the school and maintenance of garden around building that help developing better microclimate conditions. Logic of intermittent water accumulation reminds us of typical cycle of savannah BAOBAB tree. In region of tropical savannah, natural and social annual cycles, depend on one question? Does the rain falling? Vertical structure is prefabricated concrete pipes, It can accumulate 8400l of water, which is being cooled with underground pipes, by principles of geothermal energy, and thus contribute to general cooling of object.
