Architecture will always attempts to meet the diverse needs of men. Dealing with Architecture means caring about city issues, therefore the project #FUTU.RomeE attempts to respond at the architectural level to the problem of adverse conditions of Sex Workers in Rome but It could be a model for exporting to different countries. #FUTU.RomeE is a project of experimental work spaces for sex workers. Architecture has never studied in depth how this kind of spaces could be design therefore it could influence architecture in researching and experimenting them.
It could also have economic and ethical improvement: It could be a solution for pushing away the crime organized that exists all over the world and it could destroy the racket of prostitution; it could eliminate the visual decay and adverse working conditions of sex workers in the street; it could regulate the prostitution and subject it to taxations. In this way Architecture could create architectural and social solutions.
“The Manifesto” The manifesto on the Project “ Re-think experimental work spaces for Sex Workers” firstly wants to fix points on the History of the Italian prostitution phenomenon, secondly on the methodology adopted for designing the project, that is based on a detailed study of similar existing models. Finally It attempts to show the achievable objectives through the planning solution.
Image 2 “ Experimenting the line building ” - The line building contained stacked volumes one on top of each other and they house apartments for Sex Workers (both men and women). There isn’t any physical relationship between costumers/visitors and Sex Workers because apartments are located higher than the walking path and they’re divided by a glass runaway. Every apartments are monitored by security guard employed in the building.
Image 3 “ The Plan” - #FUTU.RomeE is a project imagined in Rome, on Ostiense street at E.U.R area. Principally the idea is to experiment the typical architecture typologies, as the tower, the court building, the line building and villas, as a system of “a city within a city” remembering the red light district. The project is integrated to the pre-existence building that is regenerated and renovated.
“ The Sections” – In the sections is showed how the project is in connection with the city of Rome. #FUTU. RomeE is a small city that face the railway, giving the shoulder to the closest neighbourhood. The pre-existence buildings house restaurants, food and wine, street food local and contact bar.
“The interior - Design is pleasure -” – The apartments located in every building of the project are comfortable, elegant, well designed, and detailed for giving more wellness to Sex Workers.
Furnitures, including a Jacuzzi in the bathroom, make rooms contemporary and useful for satisfying every needs of Workers. The curtain establishes if the room is occupied or not as in the old typology of “Lupanare” in the Italian Pompei brothel .
