Architecture as collective Rituality
Architecture as collective Rituality
With growing isolation of the individual, the importance of collective gatherings and places increases. The existing options however are mostly connected to consumption while poverty expands.
Collective structures (metaphorical, spiritual, ideological, physical) we inherited from the past have survived as mere shells, folklore, emptied of their original meaning.
Through our research we reread the cultural, historical, traditional, political, religious/magical, urban or scenic characteristics of specific realities working directly with local communities and involving them in collective actions.
We compose abstract ceremonies and their elements, investigating the possibility of a new contemporary rituality and reflecting on the rituals' legitimacy and potentials in our present.
Contemporary art becomes thus a tool to construct collective rituals which may indicate, inspire, claim, resist, declare, interfere with or redefine both mental and physical architectures of the future.
