Most of the memorials of Rwanda Genocide portray only the darkest side of the events of 1994. The vision of this centre is to collect and exhibit Rwandans’ positive stories of post-genocide reconciliation to promote stories of solidarity and hope for future generations. Mekado is developing with Rwandan Ngo Carsa and other supporters the UPR Centre, which will serve as a platform for researchers and local community members to work together and will be a pioneering space of learning and knowledge exchange on the post-genocide journey of Rwanda. The mission of the centre is to serve communities by supporting their journey towards healing, forgiveness, reconciliation and holistic development. The campus will include a reconciliation museum and gallery, a community plaza with café and restaurant area, a multimedia centre with a digital archive, a library to serve as an educational hub, a conference centre, accommodation and a community garden.
