UTOSTADT
UTOSTADT
- Systemic changes
Big cities are bursting at the seams.
Private space is expensive and rare.
But there still is a lot of cheap space in best location.
It doesn’t have to be freed, bought or fought for.
It's here, undeveloped and cheap.
A residential parking permit in Munich costs 30€/year.
Being a resident and owning a motor vehicle are the only requirements for such a favourable extra room. 12sqm for €2.50/month!
Time for utopia: A car-free in mind we propose to open this extra space for people who walk/bike. It mustn’t be a privilege of car owners. In addition to cars, you can park ateliers, offices, bars or social infrastructure. An UTO needs the same footprint as a full size car. It’s a cheap additional room for work or entertainment available to residents. The use costs the same as a residential parking permit.
Parking UTOs is a step along the way to a car-free city, in which public space is no longer reserved for cars but opened to the public. This step we want to bring forward.
