Parco Area delle Cave di Pietra di Apricena
Territorial Renewal and space Re-generating project for the Apricena quarries area
File under
Type of project
  • Site-specific cases

Developments that rapidly change production structures in modern societies leave behind shells in need of regeneration and transformation into new utilitarian infrastructures. Spaces and peri-urban landscapes, brownfields, landmarks and their equipment get a new shape of life, creating poles of innovative behavior and architecture. And in this aspect the project demonstrates its innovative character; unlike simple environmental beautification projects, landscape rejuvenation or recovery of abandoned quarries and structures, the project tends to allow coexistence of the productive-economic activity of the area -mainly stone extraction and processing- with the rebranding of the “Pietra di Apricena” area as a cultural attraction; this ranges from art and exhibitions to theater performances, from educational to experiential to scientific endeavors and from recreation to entertainment to sporting events.
It will help to think about new architecture opportunities without land consumption
