Fragmentin is an artist collective based in Lausanne, Switzerland, founded in 2014 and composed by three ECAL alumni. At the crossroads of art, engineering & architecture, Fragmentin’s work questions the impact of the digital on everyday life through installation, interaction and performance. The trio has been invited to give talk in architecture events or institutions such as: ETH (Zurich), I2A (Lugano), EASA (Villars), HEAD (Geneva) or EPFL (Lausanne).

Artificial Arcadia

Measured and Adjustable (?) Landscape.

Artificial Arcadia

Measured and Adjustable (?) Landscape.
A performative installation calling us to consider how contemporary landscape - especially alpin one - entangles natural, artificial (infrastructural) and digital realms, thus creating new hybrid aesthetic.

Type of project
  • Site-specific cases

In addition to the creation of new hybrid aesthetic, this project – developed in collaboration with Kosmos architects – uses digital technology to raise awareness of the – sometimes unnoticed – impact and modifications people and infrastructure are causing to natural environments.

How could we adapt this speculative proposition to larger scale to make a broader impact on the practice of architecture in the future?

Applying monitoring technologies to better record and visualize phenomenon such as glacier melting, energy consumption, pollution, radio activity or electromagnetic field could help us take better decisions in order to reduce our impact on the planet.

Such "data monitoring system" could also drive an adaptive, kinetic architecture, transforming itself based on the available energy or the level of protection needed by its inhabitants at any given moment.
