Changing Nature

Changing Nature

Could the city be modified through an acupuncture approach that implants human-scale projects in it?
File under

Today’s metropolis is a set – apparently chaotic – of overlapping networks, a complex system that assembles intangible relations. The contemporary city shifts from a state of equilibrium to another, through a resilient attitude in time and in space. The project is inserted in this plot as a complement of the existing system and, following the technique of urban acupuncture, intervenes in the residual and forgotten spaces by creating small inputs of desirable changes in the Milan ecosystem. The designed meta-projects have two main goals: the reciprocity with the place in which they are inserted and the adoption of a flexible and resilient attitude which encourages the continuous development of the XXI century city. The natural element and the increase of urban possibilities are the means through which the projects intervene in the metropolitan transformation and communicate a hospitable city in which residual spaces have become recognizable locations to take care of.

With nebulae the relationships between the projects are represented in form of areas of influence. There are two main themes analyzed in the projects: "nature", represented with yellow, and "inhabit the city", in blue.

Some examples choosen from the 21 total projects.
