“The other Spaces”

- Systemic changes
In a time when it is easier to imagine the end of the world than the fall of the global political economic system, we see the concept of heterotopia as a solid base for rethinking the future of architecture. We treat the architecture we create as a heterotopia. What we create is based on a logic that challenges the status quo, a restriction which dominates the existing built environment. The architecture, or rather the heterotopia, represents an evolutionary mutation; it brings change to the physical, generic network of built space. It changes the commonly accepted definitions of space, and disrupts our common perception of the space we live in. The architectural heterotopia helps us reflect and change what was deemed unchangeable before. At Kosi in partnerji we develop architecture based on this concept. Our heterotopia collages are a tool for ideation, developing, and explaining our creations.

Renovation of the Ljubljana Stock Exchange offices:
A physical manifestation of a neoliberal capitalist symbol that is the stock exchange.

The renovation of the Poljane grammar school’s theatre:
A relaxed space without defined boundaries, without hierarchy, and without grades and competition.

A medical practice interior:
Designed not as an institution for passively treating the sick, but rather as a space that stimulates the senses, where people meet, interact, and reflect.

A hybrid high-rise in the Ljubljana city centre:
Its grid-design concept means the main idea and functionality of the building can withstand even the most demanding conflicts of interest from all involved parties.

Renovation of an investment company’s office spaces:
The space has two faces; the first is relaxed, emotional and vibrant, while the other is sober, controlled and neat. What face is shown is dictated by current events.
