"Hearing Voices" Pavilion

Design, Building and Participation in the process of Recovery
Inclusion and encouragement of people with mental health issues in decision-making in the built environment through participatory design and construction of the pavilion.
File under
Type of project
  • Systemic changes

The aim of the project is to develop a participatory architectural model of working with people with mental health issues in order to encourage them to present themselves in space. Participants are people who hear voices, type of schizophrenia. This group is stigmatized in public as incompetent to function in the living and business environment, and in architecture is completely neglected. Neglecting and just pushing them in mental health facilities is one of the main obstacles to recovery. “Tavan” is a NGO behind the project and it’s work is based on the peer support principle and various literary, artistic workshops and gatherings. The model is designed to take place in several phases. From developing a suitable modular element to participatory workshops where the possibilities of assemblies, their function and program would be researched and established. Final phase would be the realization of the pavilion in the environment.
