Water thresholds
Water thresholds
- Systemic changes
The project is designed for the specific environment a border town on the north bank of the Miño River, but replicable in comparable cases.
Two overlaying intervention systems are proposed to reconnect the city with its unique hydrological context, which for centuries has been the axis of the city's productive and recreational activity:
-A strategic system, with a metropolitan scale, that allows to overcome or cross the set of barriers that fragment the urban area and the natural environment of Tui.
-A system of particular transition spaces named thresholds, which are conceived as autonomous units of urban development with an urban scale, in-between the strategic plan and the architectural project. These thresholds understand the barriers themselves as spaces of opportunity, recognizing their particularities and transforming them into habitable places; each one is composed of a new program with a recognizable catalog of lightweight elements which helps to give visual identity.
