The Unreal City

Building an Imaginary Layer on Cities
Building an imagined layer, through fictional narration that’s anchored by physical elements

Type of project
  • New alliances

Cities and architecture have mostly been narrated and built by political powers and economic conditions. One of the main problems modern heritage buildings will have to endure is the insignificance of its objective features, due to globalization, making the subjectification of cities and buildings more important and relevant than ever.
Creating an imaginary layer would be the method to cope with post-truth era, in where the narrative of cities and buildings will be shifted and handed to the people, creating a democratic and personal city narrative, fictional yet supported by physical elements of the city, such as statues monuments and buildings.
Enforcing a relational strength to the intangible aspects of city landscape that shapes and creates its identity through both layers of the reality and the imaginary.
