Fragments of Knowledge
Fragments of Knowledge
Fragments of Knowledge explores the human relation between nature and civilization. It started with us being repulsed by generic modern architechture. We wanted to challenge the foundation of modernism, which contemporary architecture is built upon.
The point of departure of our proposal for an architecture is not to be a solution or a final design but a concept that raises the question if this is a way to get new perspectives on how and on what ground our built environment is formed.
We went to live in the coastland of Västerbotten, Sweden to monitor our behavior and register how our human bodies reacted to the living conditions of nature.
We were looking for fragments of knowledge that we could use as obstructions to design an urban residential structure. An architecture that foremost fulfill our needs and enhances our life in response to the nature we inhabit.
The five fragments became The Thickness of Darkness, Flow, Verticality, Snow and Light.
