Submonumental
Submonumental

- Systemic changes
The underground recalls the ancestral dimension of living in caves and the subway station that runs every day in the bowels of the metropolis.
It represents the uterine environment that prepares for birth and the earth to which we all return.
It can provoke the fear of the dark, the abysses of the unconscious, the loss of orientation, the detachment from reality and is often faced by people as a forced passage, inhospitable and dark place.
The dynamics of development of contemporaneity have not ignored it, but its use responds to criteria of mere necessity such as the sinking of urban flows of large cities or the search for environmental comfort in harsh climates.
SUBMONUMENTAL finds in the hypogeal spaces a formal opportunity able to contain the scenarios of everyday life. The suggestion of diffuse or zenithal illumination and the insertion of collective functions as a contemporary substratum, a dilatation downwards of the compact city and of its public vocation.

supposed hypogeal skate park.
“Here I isolate myself from the world and I do not have to worry about cars or pedestrians, I listen to my music and I skate all afternoon”.
Jonathan, 16 years

supposed hypogeal dance-hall.
“I drag my husband to dance every Tuesday, the intimate and engaging atmosphere makes us remember when we fell in love”.
Teresa, 67 years

supposed hypogeal playgrond.
“Since I found out I always bring my little girl here to play, I know I leave her in a safe and secure place while I’m doing my errands”.
Lina, 42 years

supposed hypogeal bowls club.
“With my old friends of youth we go down regularly to play, the circumscribed atmosphere makes us concentrate on the balls, our common pastime”.
Alvaro, 75 years

supposed hypogeal supermarket.
“It happens to me while I shop to raise my eyes to the sky and appreciate the grandeur of this space, like in the cathedral of my city”.
Sveva, 52 years
