Upcycle Coffins

Upcycle Coffins

Ecological, beautiful, recycled and cheap coffins for burial or cremation in respect to the environment and personal beliefs
File under
Type of project
  • New alliances

It is important to promote alternative materials and solutions with respect to human and nature´s life cycle and personal ecological beliefs. Mainstream coffins use wood for burial and cremation that in addition have toxic finishes, embalming chemicals, chemically treated lawns or synthetic tissues that slow decomposition of the body, contaminate the soil, release toxic gases during cremation and promote deforestation.
UPCycle Coffins :
-use recycled doors and wood from waste construction without painting and varnish that can save thousands of trees. Wood is a non-sustainable resource and it is estimated that 20% of the world’s remaining forests are intact;
-buried old wood and biomass help body decomposition which is essential to prevent soil contamination. Also, fast decomposition releases space for future burials and helps land management;
-do not use paint, varnish and metal (inert) preventing land contaminating and later by rainwater, the groundwater.
