Challenging food insecurity and fragmented urbanism in informal settlements in the Global South
Challenging food insecurity and fragmented urbanism in informal settlements in the Global South
- Systemic changes
The project's main objective is to challenge the rising food insecurity in the peripheries of Lima. To this end, an urban system was developed to promote the food sovereignty of the population, seeking its sustainability over time through the active participation of users in the diagnosis, design, implementation, and management of the project. The proposal integrates urban agriculture, more efficient management of water and sanitation facilities, the implementation of improved cooking stoves for more efficient and healthy use of fuels, and the consolidation of social infrastructures to facilitate caring activities. An incremental systemic and metabolic urban approach, allows us to implement prototypes while envisioning the connection of this multiplicity of networks in the long-term. The replicable initiative seeks to strengthen the relationship between academia, civil society, and NGOs, through the consolidation of platforms that promote the exchange of knowledge between members.
