The Future Architect as a transcriber of specificities, meanings and ways of living in common places

Space Transcribers is a critical platform that questions the contemporary built environment in terms of its representation and collective imaginary. We believe that any contemporary place is equipotential of meaning and interpretation in its multiple layers of time, history, spaces and agents. We are focused in pushing the stabilized notion of architecture into other artistic and scientific fields, expanding it in order to develop and explore new tools capable of strengthening our capacities of reading and interpreting common places.

Our methodology is based on immersive "in-situ" fieldwork and on socially engaged practices within the communities and the places that we act on, in a constant quest of contents, interactions and data surveys that can be transcribed into structured and relevant narratives. We operate through the creation, participation, organisation and consultancy of activities, workshops, exhibitions and publications.

"Transcribing: Ways of Seeing and Representing" was an international workshop developed in Veiga de Penso in Braga, Portugal in 2015. The participants were asked to engage with this specific landscape, by literally living in it and interacting with its spaces, processes and communities. The main purpose was to open a multidisciplinary debate between the existing agents of Veiga de Penso, in order to activate and turn visible new narratives and ways of seeing this specific territory.

"Transcribing: Ways of Seeing and Representing". Workshop.

"Transcribing: Ways of Seeing and Representing". Engaging with the local community.

"Transcribing: Ways of Seeing and Representing". Taking action in Veiga de Penso.

"Transcribing Everyday Life: Social Housing Neighbourhoods of Braga" will be a series of activities, workshops and events that will occur along 2017. It will be a space of collaborative participation and experimentation that will use three multi-ethnical and neglected social housing neighbourhoods in Braga, Portugal, as case studies to represent specific realities and ways of living and to practice immersive pedagogic and artistic engaged activities, in order to incite social and urban change.
