Riverside Park

Transforming the legacy of history into a sustainable future

Riverside Park

Transforming the legacy of history into a sustainable future
An abandoned postindustrial patch of land in busy urban district transformed into a human and nature sanctuary
File under
Type of project
  • Site-specific cases

The site used to be a natural floodplain, exploited by farmers and fishermen, later on changed into an industrial area with ports, railways, and factories. Nowadays, it is a small abandoned place in a rapidly developing residential and office district, whose genius-loci vagueness lends it invaluable quality. Our holistic landscape solution lies in connecting the area of a future park with the river, restoring a typical riverine landscape with diverse natural habitats, satisfying human needs, and motivating people to adopt the place and explore and protect nature. Despite technical constraints, the park will recover the floodplain with its biodiversity and improve local climate by supporting resident vegetation and increasing water retention capacity. An essential feature of the project is a low carbon footprint, we will use concrete panels from the surroundings, local soil, gravel, and other materials. We are transforming the legacy of human and natural history into a sustainable futur
