EDGE is a collaborative studio providing the framework for practical and theoretical explorations of the ‘inner space’ as a medium for personal and social transformation. re-EDGE is the research theory and art division exploring current spatial and technical concepts and theories, and setting the framework for a unified design vision. We explore our visionary theories through abstract art, wearable architecture, utopia projects, installations, place making urban interventions, etc.

SkyGrid City

A futuristic vision of urban life

SkyGrid City

A futuristic vision of urban life
Synergic cohabitation of man and nature must happen. Man must inhabit the planet without interfering with it's rhythm and evolution
File under

Skygrid is a futuristic vision of urban life in synergy with the environment.

The base of a synergic cohabitation stands in understanding what makes us different to other species, as well as what makes us equal, and living by this understanding. By positioning man in a technically advanced environment, we recognise humans technological supremacy among the species. By elevating the point of view, we understand our responsibility as guardians of the environment. But we recognise that we are, like all other co-inhabitants of the earth, part of nature, and we position ourselves in close connection and in respect to the environment.

The Skygrid offers the basic infrastructure of an elevated micro-city. Its cells are developed and connected to each other by architecture same as in a traditional city. The buildings are completely three-dimensional, mere objects suspended in space. The necessity to study daylight and vertical connections adds opportunity for creative solutions.

The horizontal, landlocked city grid expansion leads to deforestation and, together with agriculture, causes imense lose of habitat, impacting the natural lifecicle and evolution of thousands of species.

Skygrid neighbourhoods rise above the wild habitat to make room for nature to regenerate. The vertical grid harbours community cohesion and enforces awareness of the natural environment below.

A dual relation towards technology is created. The Skygrid cities are powered by top technology. Enterprises are engaged into making new advancements to improve the function of the grid city.
The ground level is entirely powered by nature. All invasive technology, transportation, all polluting agents are prohibited from this space.
It is envisaged that nature and the ground will become a place of leisure, of reconnecting to our basic nature, as only one strand of the vast tree of species.

The location of the micro-city is selected based on the availability of resources in the vicinity of the existing cities.
