Supranational : Global Eye[s] : Free Space : Frequencies
ORBI[THING]: Personal remote/close-up sensing instruments and architecturally integrated networks [Extra-statecraft of private monitoring and observation networks]

Type of project
  • New alliances

Development of sensing instruments as architectural objects, specific experimental typologies, spatial installations, and architecturally integrated networks (smart systems), brings to the forefront an interesting convergence of different disciplines and their fields of competence. The project questions following topics:
01. 'free-space' (reference to 2018 Venice Biennale and the "Outer Space Treaty")
02a. 'supranationallity': spaces/places/ territories of exception; "outspacing the law" (Easterling)
02b. borders and their elusive status in specific conditions and situations (exo-spaces)
03a. global eye(s): sensing and monitoring/observation technology, instruments and architecture
03b. frequencies: the invisible spectre
04a. space exploration and technology (application and impact in architecture and architectural design)
04b. sensing instruments - personal micro-satellites
04c. digital technologies, philosophy and aesthetics; AI; architecture of 'datascapes'

The future in which all the citizens of the world will have their own personal satellite (shifting the global monitoring from a condition of a systemic control, or a global-eye, towards the system of numerous singular, autonomous and independent "eyes" associated to smaller units as a legitimised condition) is represented by the instrumental pair of launching line and a free-flight micro-satellite (the “eye”, a “mirror”, or a "wanderer").

A personal remote-sensing instrument is placed in a specific supranational or EE zone – the cosmic area and its equivalent on earth. This pair signifies a particular space of exclusion and parallel laws in comparison to the territories clearly covered and defined by national and international regulations. Free-flow cosmic field is the environment in which 'wanderers' reside, nondemarcated or divided by any laws and common physical constraints of earthly conditions (the Outer Space Treaty).

Design object consists of a model of a launching site or a data-station (home launching-line in one modality, and a station/facility as the second one, both operating over a wide range of frequencies) and a (communication, navigation, or remote sensing) micro-satellite ('personal wanderer') associated with a particular individual on earth.
