File under
Type of project
  • Systemic changes

The paper aims to study impact of concrete construction and architecture on urban sustainability. It will look into the psychological impact of such monotonous construction in urban India and its social, cultural and psychological impact on residents and the further impact of this on socio-cultural sustainability.

The study will incorporate ideas of quality of life and sense of place and will and find ways to
encourage sustainable construction by proposing region and climate based architectural
responses as design templates

Frameworks could then be developed through study of vernacular architecture and using local
material as against the universal concrete to encourage self-sufficiency and sustainability
in terms of material use and by creating ecosystems and building communities

These templates can be part of the building blocks of future 3D and 4D printing technology for
energy-efficient buildings which have reduced dependence on artificial means of thermal comfort.
