Refurbishment of Rambla del Raval and surrounding area

Little changes, better performance, same identity

Refurbishment of Rambla del Raval and surrounding area

Little changes, better performance, same identity
Transform public spaces to change radically its performance with minimum intervention

Type of project
  • Site-specific cases

The project is part of a plan for the south Raval neighborhood in Barcelona, and consists of a set of strategies for the improvement of this historically run-down area. It is a transformation that will allow a better appropriation and use of public space by the neighbors, through small interventions.
The transformation is affecting mainly three public spaces (Rambla del Raval, Plaça Vázquez Montalbán and Plaça Salvador Seguí), to activate a necessary transversal path in the neighbourhood.
Rambla del Raval and Plaça Salvador Seguí have a strong personality and identity, so the transformation seeks to change its performance in a way that its identity is preserved.
Strategies of transversality, urban permeability, activation of children’s and adolescents’ uses have been established. New playgrounds created through playful topographies, which un-specialize and un-fragment the common spaces of the city.

The construction works are being finished just now.
