This project is really ‘grown from the ground’, comparing to ‘landed from the sky’ designs, as it usually happens in our industry.
Hidden behind the villages in Xidi Town, Yixian County of Anhui Province, southwest of Yellow Mountain, the Free Valley is surrounded by streams, mountains and agricultural landscapes.
This initiative proposes an alternative settlement, where the new form of community culture stands as a core. Valley welcomes nomads from all over the world to live and create here. All aspects, from food production to currency, are reimagined by the principles of free and responsible community.
It aims to re-establish the interrelationships between a variety of components in a cultural complex, including travel, habitation, art creation, research, agricultural and crafts production, and examine how they could generate a new form of public culture and placemaking.

Hidden behind the villages in Xidi Town, Yixian County of Anhui Province, southwest of Yellow Mountain, the Free Valley is surrounded by streams, mountains and agricultural landscapes.

This is a miniature "heaven on the earth" attempt, as it understood in the East, a land of eternal peach blossom.
It aims to re-establish the interrelationships between a variety of components in a cultural complex, including travel, habitation, art creation, research, agricultural and crafts production, and examine how they could generate a new form of public culture and placemaking,

Freedom is the spirit of Zizaigu valley, and Zizai Space community centre is the heart of it. Like a Chinese garden, we designed this architecture to be a miniature of its own environment: a Valley inside the Valley.
Two slopes with ceramic tiling frame the iconic view: standing between two blocks you feel as if you opened wings to sky.
At the same time, roof humbly touches the ground, covering the interior space. Merging with the slope, it makes minimum disturbance to the mountain scenery.

The Zizay Valley is aiming to create housing and industrial community for nomads from Asia and around world.
The old man symbolizes the man, who locked own dreams in the birdcage during the whole life, without opportunity to open to world itself. He comes in the valley, feels the local landscape, the power of mountains and open sky overhead, merges together with harmony of this place.

The Zizay Valley is aiming to create housing and industrial community for nomads from Asia and around world. The old man’s wings, which has been locked up for years, break to be free, this moment of liberation frozen in the form of two mountains is stretching in the Valley and are the symbol of freedom from many years of wandering and the search of this freedom.
