Architecture of Nearness

an adaptable landscape of care in a socially-distancing post-pandemic world

Architecture of Nearness

an adaptable landscape of care in a socially-distancing post-pandemic world
An adaptable architectural prototype (6F, 15,000sqm) post COVID-19 to make users socially connected and mentally closer
File under
Type of project
  • Systemic changes

This project suggests a familiar yet COVID-secured spatial organisation for a multi-storey public building, being an office or a school, horizontally developed and vertically blurred by an internal social-stair-landscape, without relying on using vertical mechanical instruments like lifts as before the global pandemic, but with a reclaimed emphasise on human contact and care in the post-pandemic world. The 9m*9m grid system in prefab materials, restrained by each site boundary and potential underground carpark, lightly touches the land and allows the familiarity and flexibility of the space by different user groups and under different conditions of different urban landscapes.
