My Bookcase is a social enterprise that creatively explores the role of the book and its reader in today’s society. The aim of My Bookcase is to empower the reader by offering a creative space to unfold the knowledge gathered through private readings. And bring individual knowledge into shared experience to support collective intelligence. In 2017, architects Julia Doz & Cristina Garriga and curator Katie Reid joined to bring My Bookcase across the cities of Glasgow, Barcelona & Amsterdam.

Connecting people through books
Architecture as language is natural to all humankind. By working locally & digitally constructing narratives we aim to build a community of belonging.
File under

Architecture is a tool for mutual encounter as language enables us to meet and share. My Bookcase vision of architecture is to understand it as a natural capacity that each of us holds and can shape to contribute to a plural reading of society. Through the use of narratives, we work locally and digitally to empower individuals, building a community with a ‘politics of belonging’. A renewed civic life offering a sense of place in a world where our extraordinary nature – our altruism, empathy and deep connection – can be explored.

For this empowerement to take place, we offer a platform for dialogue and the understanding of the spoken and written language potential - a shared tool for connection natural to all human beings. Working as the reader’s workshop, we explore the dynamics of the reading act and its parallels to daily societal encounters. Seeing the object of the book as a tool for social encounter and cultural exchange.
