Safe Space
Call for ideas 2021
Safe Space - Extended
Safe Space - Extended
- Systemic changes
Can a space be relevant and versatile if its commissioners, planners, designers only represent a privileged few? It is undeniable that we live in a binary, male-dominated, heteronormative, capitalist, and frankly white world whereof the field of architecture is only a fair example. It is time to talk about the lack of inclusion and diversity in our profession, loudly but respectfully, openly and in a trusted space. From a focus on the Norwegian context, Safe Space seeks to extend and enrich the conversation. There is a need to create a space for accessible discussions, to develop a network, launch a call for action and advocate for a systemic change, through engaging with issues surrounding the production of and access to architecture. Our goal is to focus on access to education and commissions, more inclusive urban policies, better public space and dignified housing. We aim to realign the architectural discourse and production with the architect’s mission to serve the public interest.
