breathe earth - collective

http://breatheearth.net/

Mariahilferstraße 30, Graz, Austria
breathe.earth is a think tank to find new ways of dealing with the interrelations of architecture and natural ecosystems in order to enable future hybrid practices combining sustainable technologies with natural processes. The collective was founded after completion of 'breathe.austria' - Austrian Pavilion at the Expo 2015 in Milan (by team.breathe.austria).

Call for ideas 2016

Breathe Earth

an architectural network to vitalize natural ecosystems in order to promote air, our most important resource.

Breathe Earth

an architectural network to vitalize natural ecosystems in order to promote air, our most important resource.
breathe.earth – an architectural practice that vitalizes natural ecosystems in order to promote air, our most important resource!

Air is one of the most critical resources and number 1 source of nourishment. Humans can survive only 5 minutes without breathing. Air, climate and atmosphere unite the vast expanses of the earth. These qualities provide nourishment and serve as information and energy carrier.

designing hybrid supersystems
Future architectures will have to activate natural ecosystems and support them. Its technologies will be much more efficient in helping to vitalize ecosystems rather than replacing them and architectural practice will tool this ecosystemic performance. Therefore we will have to explore new issues in dealing with the globally vital nourishment of air and climate. Increasingly relevant in times of global warming, we will have to unite architecture and the environment, technologies and natural systems, to create integral concepts.
Future architecture means developing and designing hybrid ecological supersystems as well as active agency to foster ecosystemic performance.

a hybrid forest for breathing: A wooden framework surrounding the landscape creates the built boundaries for a unique microclimate to unfold. Within an intense leaf surface area for natural evaporative cooling the forest patch generates enough fresh air for its visitors – essentially making it a photosynthesis collector that contributes to global oxygen production. (project reference by team.breathe.austria)

breathe earth - promote intense 'forest' landscapes within built boundaries to enhance local microclimates. Within this concept the surrounding will be cooled down with the natural performance and interplay of all components – plants, architecture, technology - and the framework. (project reference by team.breathe.austria)

Waldbad @ European Forum Alpbach 2015:
In the context of the theme of the European Forum Alpbach „InEquality“ air, climate and atmosphere as a connecting medium between all living beings on the planet Earth have become a sensual experience in an installation. Within the vacant swimming pool, the temporary forest installation became a place of recreation and discourse. (by Lisa Enzenhofer, Bernhard König, Markus Jeschaunig, Karlheinz Boiger)

In September 2015 breathe.earth initiative launched to collect different answers, ideas and imaginations from people all over the world. The material will be collected to create a collective mindmap and archive on air to show the relevance of our non visible food - AIR. We are a non-governmental research unit and think tank. www.breatheearth.net
