Massimiliano Orzi is an architect, he recently founded STUDIO ORZI, a multidisciplinary design studio focused on exploring the conceptual and aesthetic possibilities of architecture, through built commissions and experimental research. He holds a Masters AAD from Columbia University and a B.Arch from Calpoly Pomona. Before establishing STUDIO ORZI, Massimiliano had extensive experience in design in award winning firms including RUR. He won several awards and competitions (see website).

Integrated Apparatus


The project speculates on the ways new technological, political, environmental, and cultural changes can redefine the spaces where we live.

The proposal depicts a near future which oscillates between techno-utopia and dystopia, in
which home ownership and housing supply will be deeply affected by technology and global
corporations. It reflects the recent trend of tech companies entering the domain of energy
production and the domestic with “smart” technology.
The project sets up a scenario of production in which a tech giant launches the HAPPI
Corporation (Housing And Power Production Infrastructure), building a network of tri-level houses along rivers which also serve as mini hydro-power plants; The Integrated apparatus.
HAPPI utilizes AI robotics to excavate the river banks extracting sand and combining it with
epoxy resins to print rock-like structures which appear to hover above the landscape, with minimal disruption to the surrounding environment. The homes are rented through house sharing marketplaces for profit.
