We use the Goldberg Variations by J.S. Bach (1685~1750) as an inspiring starting point for the realization of our project.
The J.S. Bach House is not only for living but for a cross point of different cultures and a stage of exchange as we exchange between architecture and music.
The structure of the Goldberg Variations has perfect symmetry and suggests architectural character. The decoding of the Goldberg Variations resulted in rules from which a foundation was created that served as a basis for developing the spatial variations. Those variations worked well to share the idea of architecture with others. That is, the J.S. Bach House is also a concert project performed by music and architecture. As we expect the audience to participate in building its own J.S. Bach House imaginary, this interactive creation bring out new communications over architecture and music, and more.
Unbuilt the J.S. Bach House is rich enough to let the audience experience space and move.

The overall structure of the Goldberg Variations / The thirty variations are divided into ten groups of three, each containing a character piece, a virtuoso variation and a canon. For each canon the pitch (interval) is increased by one tone. (from prime to none)
The 32-bar bass line of the aria / The aria consists of 32 bars and is based on the key of G major. The first part (16 bars) ends on the tone of D (dominant). In the middle of the second part the key develops to E minor (parallel key).

Creation of foundation of special variations / We have decoded these ascending interval sequence and bass line for the architecture.

9 abstract models of the J.S. Bach House /
Select 9 architectural elements for imaging a space. Basement, pillar, wall, frame, collider, roof, louver, opening, stairways & ramps.

Quodlibet / People gathering to the J.S. Bach House, to sing songs together.

Plans and elevations of the J.S. Bach House.
