FOS investigates the role of design in the era of crisis through research, assignments and collaborative projects. FOS produces spaces, learning processes and visual identities through the analysis of contemporary social issues, the valorization of context and the study of the relationship between Man/Nature. This process is intended to establish a new layer of investigation to interpret contemporaneity, bringing the project to its essential meaning as a antidote to today’s formal excesses.

Ground Zero

Architectural crisis as an opportunity to restart and define the very notion of the project

Ground Zero

Architectural crisis as an opportunity to restart and define the very notion of the project
A series of basic design experiments to produce new processes, in a reset logic of each rule given
File under

In this period of economic and social crisis, the role of architecture has failed, at least its coordinates have changed. The crisis is the mother of invention: to think a new future, we bring architecture and design theory to a ground zero, in order to questioning its meaning.
How a today’s man would live in absence of architecture and technology?
GROUND ZERO is a series of experiments that reset what is already established, connecting man to the natural context:
1. Development of survival strategies through basic design, intended as primary activities (environment)
2. Life experience and testing of elementary construction techniques as collective DIY time (us)
3. Development of individual creative abilities (me)
A research that comes from direct observation of reality, from experiences in first person, as well as the validation of theories within the field.
A live streaming guarantees the communication; we continuously issue and receive informations related to the experiences

In the natural world, the survival of the species is linked to the capacity to adapt oneself to environmental conditions.
The ability to make mistakes, to remember hopes and dead, to let change yourself or more often to change their surroundings, they did humanity remain on the this planet Earth beyond - perhaps - our biological destiny.
And learning is the specific strategy of the human species.

An horizontal lab, without distinctions between teachers and students.
Togheter to build some simple structures closely connected with nature, animals and agricolture.

We conceive, design and build structures using basic tools (hammers, saws, nails, ropes) and material (wood, straw) recovered in the surrounding lands.

We are always connect with the “outside” world: these experiences are taken, told and disseminated through the media: a network – a live streaming, a live twetting, periscope, etc. – underpin the communication of GZ.
We continuously issue and receive informations in relation to the experiences.

Similar experiences have happened and continue to happen: every time the design world is in crisis, we need to start from the scratch.
