Lisa Langbein (*1990) and her secret twin Jonas Langbein (*1993) collaborate since 2017 on projects that examine and question the disciplinary boundaries of their professions: Lisa as artist and educator, Jonas as architect. They are interested how artistic methods can help gain a more sensitive understanding view onto a topic/place and vice-versa. lisalangbein.eu hagijo.eu

The City as Journey

on walking as method - Mapping the (Un-)Familiar 2.0
Sensing and understanding Plzen as (un-)familiar territory through undirected research and bodily engagement.

The City as Journey is a project in which bodily experience, personal-subjective knowledge render familiar places unfamiliar. It’s the first documentation of our artist residency in Plzen. How can we establish an openminded relationship with a territory and its inhabitants, without projecting a preconceived image onto it?
We started by drifting and wandering aimlessly through the city, taking notes of our personal temporal impressions. These graphic and textual notes were collected into a digital exhibition on digital-journey.mappingtheunfamiliar.eu. Visiting the website you can drift through a personal Plzen collecting impressions of the city that combine new on each trip. In March we’ll return to Plzen to continue in participatory workshops on a collective atlas that combines and opens up new perspectives. As part of a series of open atlases we want to promote a careful and attentive perception and understanding of spaces and territories as multidimensional and subjective entities.
