Gaspar Cohen is a multimedia artist from Rio de Janeiro, Brasil, based in Porto, Portugal, with basis-interest in the production of image, its technical aspects and the phenomenology of reproduction. Has developed work in photography, video and motion graphics, always with emphasis on the logical unit inherent to each media, their dissidences and artifacts of translation. The relational aspect of space and its interface in augmentation appears to be a canvas and media in continuous deformation.

Screen-cities

from audiovisual to physicality; information and movement
This is a research project willing to comprehend the relationship between sensorial and physicality of constructed urban space.

Type of project
  • Systemic changes

As part of my MA studies, at FBAUP in Art and Public Space, I wish to develop terms to have media theory and urban sociology as unifying terms to understand Augmented Spaces.

The exploration of aesthetic breaches in city environment is aimed to work as liberating devices, that deautomatise existences and constructs or rehabilitates spaces, seen in crisis today. It's important to study, at the point to control the means of transposition from real, analog behaviours and artifacts, to digital data, it's return to materiality and all the dynamics of compression and comprehension between this translations.

If the diverse physical components of the city communicate differently with each receiver, limited spaces are created, conditioned and differentiated. Rethinking space and the urban project as medium artifacts is intended to modify the status quo by opening new flows and systems in horizontalization and the possibility of equity, sociability and community.
