Kassandras

The derelicted

Kassandras

The derelicted
Long-Term Ephemeral : the idea of a halt taking over a permanent settlement.
File under

With its abandoned construction sites and unfinished buildings, the city of Athens, and, on a wider scale, Greece, offer a major potential for the development of a case-specific methodology for activating or converting these lost « territories ».

With its last unfinished floors, KASSANDRAS' building is a perfect mock up to experiment and to explore new strategies of intervention in what already exists : the abandoned.

With its workshop and in-house facilities to develop, prototype and produce, responding thus to a variety of construction needs, Diplomates' methodology is thought as a laboratory for architectural and sustainable design through 1:1 and site-specific constructions. It aims to test out and share in real time design applied within Kassandras building.

By revitalizing un abandoned building, Diplomates aims to contribute bringing the users back into the process of building and using architecture as a pretext for a cultural and social act.

Produced at KASSANDRAS, this skeletal version of a Greek kiosk uses a customized steel connector designed by Diplomates Studio. A versatile centerpiece providing shelter and hosting the bar or a dj booth, the structure of the kiosk will expand and serve both as an anchor and a matrix for the rehabilitation of the entire building.
