Can a building be abiotic support for the creation of habitats in which humans and nature interact?

  • Systemic changes

A transdisciplinary team has developed Human Forest, a project inside a 19th century building. A succession of hybrid environments recreate paradoxical ecosystems that evoke real or imaginary places. The aim is to make traditional architectural elements co-exist with those of the non-anthropized landscape to define dynamic environments, which evolve over time thanks to the interaction between men, animals and plants. An artifice that shifts the attention to the civic role of the new citizens-gardeners, who by taking care of their immediate surroundings establish a new way of inhabiting the planet. The first cell of the project contains a real forest, a space of decompression from the hectic routine of the contemporary city, a place to re-tune with the world around us.The future reserves many other actions aimed at grafting plant life in every environment of the building to build a manifesto addressed to all those abandoned, unfinished, forgotten places that populate Italy.

Human Forest redefines the boundaries and meanings of an aristocratic building of the late nineteenth century, transforming it into a support and container for a new green ecosystem capable of activating new relationships between man and nature.

From a human invention, an artifice, springs a reflection on the role of the man of the future, an unprecedented citizen-gardener who takes care of his environment and finally learns the right way to live the planet.
