Landscape of Care

A New Theory of Love

Landscape of Care

A New Theory of Love
An installation centering around the theme of the potential future of the welfare state
File under
Type of project
  • Systemic changes

The installation centers around the theme of the potential future of the Scandinavian welfare state, its institutions and it’s role in the urban fabric. The piece envisions a new landscape of care in the degrowth society, where care for the fellow citizen is no longer channeled through complex and abstract bureaucracy, - collected through taxation and shared by aid of centralized institutions - but instead a kind of care that occurs directly between people, aided by spaces that facilitate continuous and obligating contact between people. In this vision the institution takes on a different urban form, where the borders between caring and cared for may blur, soften or dissolve. No longer only providing a minimum service standard, the institution can now work to nurture and propagate the grounds for ex- changes between people. In its spaces — no longer dictated by the rationale of maximum efficiency, new typologies, hybrids and opportunities for contact can be found.
