The role of architecture in relation with the internet and contemporary society through screens.

Type of project
  • New alliances

The way in which we live is changing, appearing new electronic devices that keep us informed and connected not only people to people but also people to objects 24 hours a day. This new relationship creates a series of mediatopias -heterotopias powered by screens- that can unite different times and spaces, creating a physical and virtual connection between one or more people.
We could say that there is currently a space that we take over in a virtual way instead of inhabiting. As Hendrik Petrus Berlage said, rather than drawing facades, architecture consists of the creation of spaces. If we are aware of the existence of a virtual space, our job as architects is to make it habitable.
The main idea is to focus on that virtual space, a space with which we will have to deal in the future and find out the way we will inhabit it.

Interior - Interior’
A space is generated when two people communicate via Skype from their own connected rooms, joined in time but separated in two different interior spaces. In the beginning these two spaces are private and become public when the privacy in the web is shared.

Interior - Exterior’
A person watching from the screen inside their own connected room a live broadcast of an event that happens in another place and is able to take part in it without being physically present. It is through the reactions or comments from the audience that digital platforms promote the experience of social relationship with the other space.

Exterior-Interior-Exterior’
Different sites of the same exterior space in which other people broadcasting, for example inside a parade in which exist several broadcast at the same time, through mobile phones and reach different places either exteriors or interiors.

Interior - Exterior - Interior’
The relationship between spaces can be more complex to the point that one time during Malaga’s processions of 2017, by using a computer, a woman broadcasts the event from her window, so that another woman can watch the procession without leaving the room.
